FEP Blue Coverage Availability & Fees
The FEP program from BlueCross BlueShield offers two different plans: a high option and a standard option. You can expect varying coverage levels depending on which plan you are enrolled in:
- Basic services (exams, cleaning, X-rays, etc.): Up to 100% coverage with both the standard and high option plans.
- Intermediate services (some types of oral surgery, gum scaling, etc.): 55% coverage with the standard option and 70% coverage with the high option.
- Major services (dental implants, root canal therapy, etc.): 35% coverage with the standard option and 50% coverage with the high option.
FEP Blue plans do not come with any deductible, and there is no annual maximum for those who take advantage of in-network services with the high option plan. If you visit an out-of-network provider, there is a $3,000 annual limit. With the standard option, the annual maximum is $1,500 for in-network care and $750 for out-of-network services.
As you can see from the above numbers, it makes more financial sense to visit an in-network provider, such as our oral surgery practice. We work closely with BlueCross BlueShield to help our patients get the greatest value possible out of their insurance. In some cases, we can even schedule major services across calendar years in order to make it possible to use two annual maximums instead of one.
